This is the cover art I did for 'The Mad Wolf's Daughter' by Diane Magras and published by Penguin Random House. A great project to be part of. I love Magras novel, Her characters are vivid and strong as well as is the medieval settings and perilous adventures they are drawn into. This not light medieval fantasy, it is intense and gritty.

I have always been fascinated by stones, stones of all kind, shape, texture. Whenever I found them they tell me a story, Their textures make me create tales on my mind and I want to paint them. Here is one from a series of drawings about stones, made in graphite pencil on Strathmore Bristol board with grey tones and light accents added in Photoshop. Warmer Times is a personal image I recently finished. This was a long snowy winter, no vacations anytime to take a break from the cold and lots of work precisely on a picture book about Christmas so I spent more than three months drawing more snow that what I already have on my everyday life.
I needed a break so as soon as I finished that commission I quickly went back to finish this old idea Antonio Javier Caparohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15791817040940394671noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-686084778519479778.post-42347388356147520952017-03-28T10:14:00.001-04:002017-04-04T08:36:32.923-04:00Space Runners, The Moon Platoon

If not and Illustrator I should have been an Archaeologist or something like that. I've always been obsessed with ancient stones and artifacts, history showing through what cultures left behind. Somehow this passion mixed with my forever interest in fantasy and my passion for graphite pencils gave birth to this series. I’ve been a fan of Eyewitness Books (Enciclopedia Visual Altea en españoll) for many years now. They are not just fun educational tools but also an excellent reference for my Illustration work. Happy New Year everyone!
My first post of 2016 is a piece I finished while on December vacations. I recently read 'The Revolutions' by Felix Gilman and it totally blew my mind. Gilman is a wizard of blending Fantasy and Sci-Fi in a perfect way. The Revolutions is a mix of Victorian occultism, steampunk and Mars exploration, all topics I love with some great characters and many amazing visual Antonio Javier Caparohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15791817040940394671noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-686084778519479778.post-47302552741634317622015-11-12T09:47:00.001-05:002015-11-12T09:48:55.358-05:00Inktober re-countDuring October I made a series of ink drawings for the Inktober initiative that has become a sort of tradition over the last few years. I published them on Facebook but here they go all together plus a final one I never had the time to post before the month was over. They were all made using color ink fine point Sharpie markers.
